New Breathalyzer Software Code Studied PDF Print E-mail

Interested parties have been attempting to look at the source code used by manufacturers of various breathalyzer models.

The breathalyzer determines a DUI suspect's guilt or innocence, and depends on the accuracy of the software that drives it. The majority of breathalyzer manufacturers have refused to produce the code information, which they claimed as their creation.

Recent DUI cases in Florida, Minnesota, New Jersey and a growing number of other states have begun ordering the manufacturers to reveal the source code of their machines. 

A New Jersey attorney was finally able to get an order from the state supreme court forcing the manufacturer of the popular Draeger AlcoTest 7110 to reveal the source code. The attorney turned the code over to Base One Technologies for analysis. 

Base One Technologies found the model's code consisted mostly of general algorithms and is not considered to be unique or proprietary in nature.
